How to Play


  1. Like any crossword puzzle, type the letters in the appropriate grid on the puzzle posted.
  2. The players may pause their game, if they so wish to, by clicking on the “SAVE” button and can re-start according to their own convenience.
  3. Once the teams have finished with their solutions, they can submit their solutions by clicking on the “SUBMIT” button. Before clicking the "SUBMIT" button, both the teammates must consult each other and finalize the grid entries for submission.
  4. Remember, once the team click on the “SUBMIT” button, its solutions would be registered as their final submission and the same cannot be retrieved or changed.


  1. To participate in CCCC 8.0, you must first register yourself for the championship at . Once the registration is done, your CCCC 8.0 username and password will be sent to you via email/sms. Use the log in credentials sent to you for all the online weekly rounds.
  2. CCCC 8.0 will comprise 3 online weekly rounds preceded by a Practice Round.
  3. The competition weekly rounds will be held every Saturday for 3 consecutive weeks starting from October 17, 2020. The Practice Round will starts on October 10, 2020
  4. The weekly rounds will involve solving the crossword puzzle which will be posted every Saturday at 1200 hrs IST on under “CCCC 8.0 – Weekly Round”.
  5. You will be required to submit the complete solution by 1200 hrs IST the following Friday.
  6. The team with the fastest and all correct solutions will be awarded 100 points. The scores will move in a descending order based on the time taken and correctness of the solutions.
  7. A Leaderboard of the leading teams will be created every week. 2 leaderboards shall be posted every week on ; the first would be the weekly Leaderboard - based on the scores of individual rounds; and the second would be the Overall leaderboard - based on the cumulative scores of all the weekly rounds as they proceed.
  8. A cumulative addition of the total scores of all the teams for the weekly online rounds will be calculated for the Final Leaderboard after the 3 weekly rounds.
  9. The selected team (selected on the basis of overall scores and city rankings) from Final Leaderboard will qualify for the next round, after which teams would be selected for the Grand Finale. The shortlisting done for Round 2 & 3, by the organisers based on overall points and city rankings, would be final and binding. Organisers may also permit wild card entries for the Grand Finale and Round 2.
  10. The Grand Finale is scheduled to be held in December 2020 at Delhi. It would be subject to the conditions prevailing in view of the Corona Virus Pandemic.


The Practice Round of the CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest 2020 (CCCC 8.0) ended on October 15, 2020. The result may be accessed on We have uploaded the overall Leaderboard, City Leaderboard and the solution grid on the site.

The first of the three scoring rounds in Stage 1 of the contest will start on October 17, 2020. There will be two more scoring rounds after this before we shortlist the teams for Stage 2. Below are the key features and the step-by-step guide of the contest:

  1. It is a team contest; a team comprises two students from the same school
  2. The contest is open to students of Std VII to XII; team members may belong to different classes
  3. A team must register to play the game
  4. The registration will remain open till the close of Round 3 (Midnight November 4, 2020)

  7. The mobile number of Student 1 (one who registers the team) will be the username

  9. Round 1 will begin on October 17, 2020 at 11 am (1100 hours)
  10. Round 1 will close on October 22, 2020 at 1 pm (1300 hours)
  11. Round 2 will begin on October 24, 2020 at 11 am (1100 hours)
  12. Round 2 will close on October 29, 2020 at 1 pm (1300 hours)
  13. Round 3 will begin on October 31, 2020 at 11 am (1100 hours)
  14. Round 3 will close on November 5, 2020 at 1 pm (1300 hours)
  15. Marks will be allotted for both correctness and the speed of submission
  16. At the end of Round 3, a shortlisting of teams will be done for Stage 2
